Cooperation is key

Medycyna Praktyczna, September 19, 2022

Knowing full-well that cooperation is the key to a quickly and effectively provided aid, the Institute for Emergency Medicine and Medycyna Praktyczna had been working within a network of organisations since the very first days of our fundraiser.

Through Ukraine Medical Consortium (UMC), which we’d set up, we’re able to extend that network and welcome more societies, institutions, and volunteers. The consortium was established with the aid of excellent experts from all around the world, such as, for example, Lewis Sida – the director of Humanitarian Learning Centre (HLC) in the UK.

Ukraine Medical Consortium’s goal is to provide medical and humanitarian aid for Ukraine. Because of our good connections and trust-based relationships with Ukrainian officials and strategic organisations, we’re able to acquire necessary medical equipment and resources, and deliver them where they’re needed the most.

The contact network established by UMC makes it easier for the organisations, volunteer groups and teams of experts to operate – we can achieve more by joining our forces.

We’ve based our work model on the reliable analysis of all the requests for aid we’ve received. The analysis is being conducted by our experts – doctors from Poland, Ukraine and other parts of the world. This way we can be sure that appropriate aid reaches appropriate people. Among our advisors are:

  • Jarosław Gucwa – the chairman of the Institute for Emergency Medicine, an expert in the fields of surgery and emergency medicine, long-time chairman of Polish Medical Mission. He participated in the missions in Kosovo, Albania, Chad, Iran, Darfur, and Afghanistan,
  • Wojciech Bodzoń – a board-member of the Institute for Emergency Medicine, an expert in the fields of internal medicine and anaesthesiology, one of the founding members of Polish Medical Mission. He participated in the missions in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Romania,
  • Eric Christopher Cioe-Pena – an expert in the field of emergency medicine, the director of Center for Global Health of Northwell Health and Zucker School of Medicine in Hofstra/Northwell,
  • Chandra Hassan – an expert in the fields of bariatric and minimally invasive surgery. He works at Mount Sinai hospital in Chicago,
  • Jeffrey Horenstein – an expert in the field of emergency medicine, experienced in managing mass-casualty surgeries. He works at Martha’s Vineyard hospital in Oak Bluffs (Massachusetts),
  • Olga Kozyreva – an expert in the fields of internal medicine, oncology, and haematology. She’s an assistant professor at Boston University School of Medicine.
UMC serves as a centre of scholarship on medical equipment and resources (their acquirement and distribution) as well as a contact centre. We offer our experience, make communication easier and coordinate shipping. We quickly react to any changes. We provide all sorts of aid, taking care of the needs of hospitals in Ukraine and particular patients. We work in a way that makes it possible for the shipments to reach their destination in as short time as possible. We’re reliable.
